A Pagoda for the Future: 1964 230SL EV Conversion

We’re not about to pretend we’re actively shopping for an electric vehicle BUT if we were, this EV converted 1964 230SL would most likely be our top choice. It can be found listed here on Craigslist in Los Angeles, CA for $78,000.

This professionally converted 230SL seems to be fairly stout as far as conversions go. Laying down 165 horsepower and 189 ft/lbs of torque, it’ll definitely get out of it’s own way. Although it’s no Tesla-beater on the drag strip, we happen to think it wins in the looks department on its worst days.

The exterior of the car shows average wear for a car of this age and the interior seems to be a bit of a hodgepodge but we quite like the combination and character of the build. The red and tan leather is tied together nicely by the OEM ivory steering wheel while the entire package wears a set of whitewalls nicely.

When talking about value, it’s hard to debate the asking price. As a solid car and professional conversion it doesn’t seem overpriced...but again, it’s all relative. If you are shopping for an EV (perhaps a weekender) and can afford this one, we’d recommend taking a look.
