All Original 28k-mile 1999 SL500

Located in Vacaville, California, this 1999 SL500 has traveled less than 28k miles in it's 21 years. It's currently being offered for sale by the aunt of one of our followers, Jake @Thompson707 on Instagram, and is currently a 3 owner vehicle. The car has always been regularly maintenanced and is said to run excellent with no known needs at this time. We've grown to have a huge appreciation for all original examples like this that present just as well as they did when they left the factory.

The Glacier White (143) paint appears to retains it's gloss and we can see no blemishes from the photos. The interior is finished in Orion Gray Nappa Leather (238) which also appears to be in excellent shape with little to no wear visible on the seats. The center console wood also appears to be free from cracking or fading.

While the car is not a Sport package, it is nicely optioned with both xenon headlights and heated seats which come in very handy on those crisp fall nights with the top down. In 1998, the R129 underwent a major facelift and are often referred to as 'late' vs 'early' cars. A few of the differences are bullet pointed below:

  • M119 V8 engine replaced by new M113 (easier to work on and deemed more reliable)

  • Soft Nappa leather seats replace the perforated leather seats

  • New steering wheel design (smaller)

  • Body color door handles

  • Restyled rear lights

  • 17-inch wheels now standard

  • One-touch starting- called “Tip-start”. Once the key is turned, the engine cranks on its own until it catches and starts.

  • Instrument gauges now have silver rings around each gauge

  • Oil pressure gauge replaced by oil temperature gauge

  • Restyled engine vanity cover

  • Removed the automatic lock on the left rear storage compartment which houses the Bose subwoofer

  • Passenger side storage net added to transmission tunnel

This example wears the standard 17x8.25 chrome 5-spoke wheels in chrome. We aren't typically a huge fan of chrome wheels but they somehow work very well against the Glacier White paint and non-sport trim. All R129s have began to see an appreciation in values and certainly are destined to be classics with their iconic design, compliments of the legend Bruno Sacco himself. With this kind of mileage, one may even be able to justify this as an investment purchase.

If you're looking for a well-kept, late model SL500, this certainly should be considered. It's been with it's current owner since 2002 and with a mere 28k miles, should provide plenty of years of top down fun for it's next owner. Asking price is $14,500 and interested parties may reach out to Jake directly at (707) 210-4817.
