Always Stick to What You Know: 2001 E55 AMG

What happens when a dealer tries to get in on the hype? Five photos, no background, and a price positioned at the top of the market. We recently came across a listing for a 2001 E55 that made us think twice. This E55 AMG can be found listed here with Lexus of Fremont in Fremont, California. We probably know better than most how to properly present and sell a W210 E55 AMG and moreover we know what these cars are worth any given day. This being said, we really wish dealers in these situations would reach out to us for some guidance.

This 2001 E55 AMG is currently offered for sale by a Lexus dealer in California, it’s unclear whether it was traded at the dealer or acquired through auction but the clean carfax shows 7 owners and the car last traded hands less than three years ago. After a brief VIN search, we can’t see any record of this car being offered on high profile sale or auction sites but we also don’t have much insight into the history of the car including mechanical upkeep.

Asking price for this E55 is an eye-opening $19,881. Given most dealer resources still display fair value for these cars more than 10k less than the asking price, we assume the dealer is poking around some enthusiast based sites. Sure some E55's are bringing that but with 75k miles on the odometer of this one, we have a hard time justifying it.

Only 5 photos are offered with the listing for this E55 so we’re relying on the data card for basic build information. We can’t speak to the condition of the interior or details of this one. Finished in Brilliant Silver over Black, any prospective buyers should be able to pick out imperfections with ease if the car is examined in person. If there is a story behind this car, the community is sure to know.
