Coachbuilt Pt 2: 1986 560 SEC Straman Convertible

Following our look at the extremely unique 1990 560TEL (Estate) By Caro, today we have an equally distinctive coachbuilt W126 with a much different execution. On offer from our friends at The Stuart Parr Collection, this 1986 560SEC Straman Convertible was ordered new from the Mercedes dealership in Newport Beach, Ca. by a prominent real estate developer. From there, it was sent directly to the Straman Coachworks in Costa Mesa, California for the convertible conversion, which cost just over $50k USD to complete.

"Richard Straman Coachworks produced  just over 100 Mercedes conversions, which were sold new through the U.S. Mercedes Benz dealerships. A considerable amount of work was invested in testing the chassis and reinforcing it to provide similar structural integrity as a hardtop."

Starting with a base 560SEC finished in Diamond Blue Metallic (355) over Palomino (454) with a stated MSRP of over $65,000USD in 1986, this very special W126 was re-imagined to include a power operated convertible top covered in a complimentary tan canvas. This 560SEC has enjoyed long term single family ownership, a documented 29k miles from new, and is said to have benefited from a recent service to the tune of $8k USD,

Additional items that accompany the sale are said to include an extra master key, the original owner’s manuals, maintenance booklet and datacard, a tool kit, spare tire, tonneau cover, car cover, and jack. Although no price is specifically listed, we would anticipate the number for such a special vehicle to be some amount into the six figures. Feel free to contact The Stuart Parr Collection for any additional questions or inquiries.
