No-Reserve Auction: 2001 CLK55 AMG

With just under two hours left on the bidding clock this 2001 CLK55 AMG is about to head to a new home. This specific car has been a nice debate in the community for the last few days and we think it has the potential to sell cheap and be a solid buy for CLK55 buyers. The listing can be found here on eBay and is presented with no reserve.

Showing just 90k miles, this Glacier White (143) over Graphite/Anthracite Napa Leather CLK seems to be in nice shape and is brought to market as a 1-owner, no accident example. All the typical bits and pieces appear to be present as well, books, keys, records, original floor mats, and the complete tool kit. The leather seats show nicely and the wood doesn’t show nearly as much sun-fading as most W208’s seem to after 20+/- years on the road.

The exterior of this CLK55 follows suit as there don’t appear to be any repainted panels or dents/dings in the body. The cloud-prone headlights have been well kept and even the 17” Monoblocks appear to have never been refinished and really don’t seem to need it.

If we were going to be picky about details on this CLK before it ends, we’d only want to mention a few items. The interior gets a solid 9/10 from us as the only issues really appear to be with screens. The cluster is starting to lose a few pixels on the right hand side where the gear selection/time is displayed while the top of the odometer is on the way out. Perhaps we could say the same for the base of the head unit display but we’d need to take a closer look to be sure. Mechanically the car appears to be well taken care of but a few light modifications have been made. A cold-air intake has been fabricated and drops to the bottom of the engine bay (presumably to pick up air through the bottom grille) and aftermarket strut bars have been added to both the front and rear of the car. We can’t make out the manufacturer but if they bother the next owner, they’re very easy to remove. Also noted is that the CLK will need a new exhaust. It current wears aftermarket headers and no rear muffler. This jib is easy enough but given the modifications it’s safe to assume the cars seen the redline a few times. Make a last pass over the exterior and the roof antenna could use replaced to make it the ideal stock example. The seller does note the stock headers and airbox are included in the sale.

For the little bit of work this CLK55 needs to be returned to stock, it may end up bering a great buy. Very few of these coupes are showing less than 100k miles and only a fraction of those are this color combination. Given the originality of the big ticket items on this car it’s safe to assume the cars been well-kept and well-driven. We wouldn’t hesitate to say this is a buy under 10k any day of the year and it wouldn’t surprise us to see 12k under the right circumstances.
