When Time Flies: 2006 CLS55 AMG IWC Ingenieur

It’s no surprise we’re equally as big watch nerds as we are car nerds. Once in a while, carmakers find a way to partner with watchmakers and create some seriously cool products. This 2006 CLS55 AMG IWC Ingenieur can be found listed here on eBay for $23,500.

In the summer of 2005, Mercedes and Swiss watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen announced a co-op edition of the then-new W219 CLS55 AMG, known as the CLS55 AMG "IWC Ingenieur." Only 55 of these cars were sold in the United States and they featured options, colors, and a very special “wearable” accessory that couldn’t be ordered on any other CLS55. All of the exterior decorative elements, including the radiator grille louvers, fog light rings, side window bezels, handle inserts, and rear trim feature a matte titanium color. Even the stock 5 spoke AMG wheels saw the unique finish. The interior was equally as unique with Piano Black wood, titanium finish dials, and matching seats. This specific car shows only 80k miles on the clock and seems to be largely in nice shape. We’re pleased to see a complimentary IWC watch is still included and remains in the original box however, it's not the watch that was included with the CLS55 at the time. Considering only 55 of these were made and the CLS55 was only available for the 2006 model year, this is a fairly rare edition with huge nerd-appeal for watch or AMG enthusiasts.

This specific example looks to be nicely kept and the owner has ensured this one remains stock (Which is hard to come by when you find an IWC CLS). The hype around this specific edition will always be strong and lower mileage examples should always find a home amongst collectors but as long as the original IWC timepiece remains with the car, these will carry a premium above other CLS55’s.
